What to Do After a Tooth Extraction
Getting teeth pulled is never fun. Dental work can be scary, whether you’re going in for wisdom tooth (third molar) extraction, getting a tooth pulled for orthodontics, or just getting rid of a tooth that’s been causing you pain. The good news is that after the dental work, you’ll probably feel better or you’ll at least be saving yourself from pain in the future. Follow these guidelines to help get back to normal faster and prevent infections, after having a tooth pulled.
Before You Get Your Tooth Pulled
Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into, before you head to the dentist. Depending on your particular situation, you may be in for major oral surgery involving general anesthesia or you may only need a simple extraction where you’re conscious during the procedure.
For extractions involving general anesthesia, it’s likely that you’ll be required to not eat or drink anything from the night before the surgery. You won’t be allowed to drive yourself home afterwards, so you’ll want to arrange someone to transport you to and from the dentist office.
For an extraction with only local anesthesia, you may not be as out of it afterwards, although it’s a good idea to still have a family member or friend there to make sure you get home safely and have everything you need.
Before you go in for your extraction, get everything together that you’ll need to make your recovery more bearable. These are some common things you may want to have on hand:
- Soft foods, such as yogurt, milkshakes, and soup.
- Books, magazines, DVDs, or other materials to entertain yourself in bed.
- A comfortable place where you can recline but still have your head raised, such as a bed or couch with pillows.
- Painkillers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
- Ice packs you can hold on your face.
Directly After Extraction
The first 24 hours after extraction are when you’ll feel the most pain and discomfort. This is also the time when you’ll need to be careful maintaining the hygiene of your mouth.
Directly after extraction, take the painkillers the doctor has prescribed, even if you have yet to feel any pain. Lack of pain is a sign that your local anesthesia hasn’t yet worn off – and trust me, you’ll be feeling some pain in a few hours. You don’t want to wait until you’re already hurting to take your medicine. Go home and rest for at least an entire day; school, work, and friends/family will have to wait.
Now’s a good time to recline on your bed or couch and ice your face on the side of the extraction. You’ll want to alternate with 10 minutes of ice your face on and 20 minutes off. Drink lots of liquid.
Avoid the following in the first 24 hours after extraction:
- Chewing on the side of the mouth where your wound is.
- Using straws or doing anything that involves sucking, as this may cause the blood clot in your mouth to loosen.
- Alcohol, caffeine, carbonated drinks, and hot drinks or food.
- Smoking.
The Week After Extraction
In the seven days following your extraction, continue to be careful about your blood clot; don’t touch it. Rinsing your mouth with saltwater after eating and before bed can help reduce the chance of infection. If you’re interested in other tenets of oral hygiene or becoming a dental hygienist, check out Dental Hygienist Training.
Continue eating soft foods and avoid brushing in the area by your extraction for one week. You may take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain, if necessary.

Garbage
The rain yesterday was extremely strong, and the drainage at the back of the parsonage was overflowing and the water came inside the parsonage. And when we looked at outside, the canal was very full of the garbage. So, my friend and I ran outside and trying to clean up, the sacks of garbage that had been hindering the water to flow. We decided to clean up the dirt of the canal even though the rain was falling heavily because we scared that dirty water would flow inside our abode. After cleaning the drainage the water that went inside to our place subsided right away. But to be honest with you, it was so smelly and it was good that the rain fell heavily. Guess what? After cleaning the dirt, my feet were itching a lot, I think it was because of the dirty water. But after cleaning, I cleaned up myself, and poured lots of alcohol on my feet.
But generally, I was just happy that we cleaned up the drainage so that when another heavy rain falls, we would not be worried anymore if the dirty water would come inside our abode because there is no garbage hindering in the canal.
Actually, while we were cleaning the canal, I felt like I was only playing under the heavy rain and I remember my childhood days. Coolness!
Heavy Rain And Strong Wind
Last week, the rain was so heavy, and in fact, there were few galvanized roofs had been flown and landed on the street. And the roofs of our neighbor’s house had been collapsed and until now they never rebuild the roofs yet.
And today, the rain was so heavy and the wind was very strong, and I could really hear the roofs in the parsonage were really shaking and the roof of our neighbor was flown onto the roof of the parsonage and later blown by the strong wind and landed on the school ground. The good thing that the students and parents who were still at the school and I called them and let them stayed inside the parsonage and they there until the heavy rain subsided.
While I was sitting with parents and students, I thought of my family, and I thought of the houses of my sister and my brother because both of their houses were made of wood and the houses were quite not strong enough to stand against the strong wind. And while we’re having our prayer meeting at church, I decided to phoned my sister, and when she answered the phone, she cried, and I asked what happened to her why she was crying and she told me that the roofs of her house were brown away by the strong wind. And I asked her if they were all okay and nobody was get hurt. And thank God they were all safe and it was also wonderful that while the heavy and strong wind roared on my sister house, they evacuated to our mother’s house. I believe it was guidance of God that they should ran to our mother’s for their shelter, although, they were so wet when they arrived there. But it was truly great that they quickly transferred.
I have been so thankful to God for the safety of my siblings, though, their house was broken, but there is no big with it because their lives are more important to me. I know that they house will be rebuilt again.
By the way, not only my sister’s house was broken but also her neighbors. According to everyone, it was the first time that the wind was very strong and destroyed some houses. Read more…
Rosal
since I have been staying at the parsonage, so I would be the one looking after the flowers and plants, and watering them every morning and it would not rain after closing the day, I would water the plants again. One thing that I really like to mend the flowers is that, the beautiful of its nature. And the evidence of the beautiful flowers in the yard is the while beautiful rosal. Oh, this rosal has no smell, so it is pleasant to stare the flowers and I even sometimes touch them gentle.
Here is the healthy and growing rosal tree and it really carries the beautiful and captivating while flowers. Isn’t it beautiful to look after the growing plants? I would really say….Yes, it is. Oh, I also plan to plants lots of plants in the yard soonest.
So Attached!
It has been more than a month since I’ve transferred to the parsonage as my new shelter. So, it has been more than a month also that I didn’t spend time with my little one. But I phoned them every time and then, and talked to my precious little one.
Last week, I had a chance to visit them, and when they saw me riding on the tricycle, they ran after me, so, my brother-in-law who drove the tricycle stop it, and let my little one rode and they ran to me, and hugged me to tight. And the 3 years old nephew asked me, “te Litlit uwi kana bayay’? Auntie Litlit, are you coming home? And he ran straight to my mother’s house, and never stopped asking until I answered to his question. And then, my other little ones were asking me too, if I would be coming home. But I answered them that I would only visit them every time and then, but they never stopped begging me to stay with them. Honestly, it was a very heart-breaking but I had nothing to do with it, because I had to stay a little away from them because of the very big reason.
And the saddest part, my 4 years old niece who has been so attacked to me, she cried a lot when I left for the city. And while riding on the tricycle, I cried because inside my heart I really wanted to stay with them but because of something, I had to leave the place. Although, my niece kristel was sobbing when I left, and my other niece shouting loud just to tell me….”auntie, I love you, I love you and I will be missing you”. Oh, when I heard her saying…I love you…I sobbed and I told her “I love you, too and I will be missing you a lot” and I cried and sobbed while leaving the place. Yes, it was not easy being apart from my precious one. But I know God has preparing for everyone’s heart because I know for sure that I would not be staying with them for too long anymore. Though, we all cried every time we saw each other, but it helped us to be strong, especially the hearts of my precious ones. I know they will get use of being away from me. As of this time, I will only visiting them as I promised to them. Oh, by the way, last week, we spent lots of time together, we ate our lunch together, and I looked after them during lunch break of our daily vacation Bible school which I really loved to do with my precious nieces and nephews.
Oh, my gush! While writing this, my tears were truly falling down; it was because I have been missing my dearest siblings so deeply. Honestly, I have been so attached with them but I have to stay away from them and do the things that I would be done. I love you so much my precious ones.
Presenting to you my four lovely and beautiful nieces. From the left Kristel, Kday, Yayay, and Kimberly. I took this photo last Month. I would say that we’re so attached with each other. And when I was still staying with them, these little girls would always follow me wherever I go.
Circumsion
Last week, my nephew had his circumcision and there were 10 of them who had been circumcised. And all of them were circumcised by a person who has been known as a good person to circumcise all the boys in our village. In fact, he circumcised my brothers and my other nephews and also all our neighbors’ boys, too.
Unfortunately, among the ten boys who had been circumcised only my nephew who had been bleeding, although, they tried to find some solutions on how to stop the bleeding but they were not successful. And the blooding became so severed and my nephew’s body became so cold and his body was numbing so my family, particularly my sisters and sister in law ( not a mother of my nephew) decided to bring my nephew to the hospital. And when the doctor mended my nephew, the doctor said, that it was too good that they brought my nephew to the hospital without waiting for another hours because the life of my nephew would be endangered because his blood pressure was too low. And he might need for blood transfusions. Upon hearing those words, my heart and mind were truly against it, because having blood transfusion was not that easy. It was Saturday evening when the doctor told us. And Sunday morning came the med tech extracted a vial of blood from my nephew. And we knew the result of my nephew’s blood test on Monday morning. And that’s the time; the doctor declared that my nephew truly needed blood transfusions because his hemoglobin was only 7.9 and the normal count was 12. No kidding at all.
To make the long story short, we didn’t agree for blood transfusions for a few reasons. But instead, I asked the doctor to only prescribe for vitamins. And the doctor honored our suggestion, but she also told us that the result would be very slow to recover the hemoglobin of my nephew. But since, we have been so determined that my nephew’s hemoglobin would be restored. Besides, my nephew health’s status is really good because he never felt dizzy and his appetite has never changed and always ate a lot. Besides of the vitamins that we have been giving to him, we also give him lots of nutritious food. And the good thing is that, he would never says “no” to all the food that we always feed him, because he understands that it is very important for his body.
What had happened to my nephew was not really good but we have been so thankful to God for preserving the life of our little one. And we’ve also learned lots of lessons that would never allow that person to circumcise our little boys now. We all decided that when time comes that our little boys now, need to be circumcised we would prefer to let them circumcise by the doctor.
And by God’s grace, yesterday, he was discharged from the hospital and God has been so faithful in meeting all our needs as well as for healing my nephew. Read more…
April
Wow! A few hours from now, April will be soon here. Indeed, time flies so fast, and without thinking that the end of this year will soon comes. Huh! Anyway, those past months seemed liked it was just a few days ago. Oh, by the way, it came to my life that I didn’t really think of days, weeks, months, and it made me to forget the dates and the months too. But those days were gone because my mind set has truly back to normal. Oh, please don’t misunderstand me, because my mind has never became crazy, it so happened that I had to much things in my mind, and it made me thought and focused on those things. Actually, without the calendar that has been hanging on my wall, I couldn’t really think of the dates and days. But now, I am really happy in welcoming the “April”
Well, as I said, those days were gone, and I am not ready and excited to face the “April”. And I have been anticipating that there would be great and unexpected things that God would show to me, and there would be lots of activities that I am really look and excite with. As of time, I have to log out and go back to place where I am staying because I am here at the internet cafe just checking my blogs and other stuff.
I hope my computer will get fix soon so that I would be able to check the online stuff at home and above all I would be able to chat my bestfriend.
contaminated by the Virus?
A couple of days ago, my friends and I were having good time together, like eating together, and sleeping together and above all laughing to the max. actually, the friends that I was talking about are the teachers of Golden harvest christian Academy. Well, being with friends, it was also a good time of refreshing. Would you agree with me? Perhaps, your would say that it depends on what kind of friends you are surely hanging around. Yes, of course.
Well, part of our bonding was checking our facebook. Since, I had not much to do online. So, I let them used my computer, and let them enjoyed checking their fb as well as chatting with their friends who had been online. And one night, while I was asleep, one of my friends checked her facebook and of course with my permission. Unfortunately, when I opened my lappy on the following day, it didn’t open and I tried a couple of time, but still, it didn’t open. So, I decided to keep my computer and wait until someone would check it. And often time, I thought what’s really the caused why my computer had collapsed again.
And the sad part was like, before I went to bed, I told my sweet thing that I would come online when I got, but due to what happen to my computer, I wasn’t able to come online. Since, I was so concerned of my bestfriend, so I came online in facebook, and we chatted for awhile using the fb. Incidentally, after I logged out in fb, my cellphone hanged up, and it didn’t work well. And I was bit concerned of what had happened to my cellphone. But I wasn’t worried about it, but I did check it a couple of times, like removing the battery, simpack and the memory card, and inserted it again, but no availed. But, while talking to my colleagues at church, I accidentally dropped my cp, and the battery, etc were scattered on the floor. And when I inserted the accessories again, my cellphone has back to its life, although, it sometimes hang up, and and the screen looks so funny, but it still works.
Actually, some of my friends told me, might be my cellphone and computer had been contaminated by the virus. I also think that my friends are right because of what had happened to my gadgets. But I am still thankful that my cellphone still can be useful although it hangs up often. And with regards to my computer, I will wait of my pastor’s son to come home on April 4 and he will surely check my computer and while waiting for him to come home, and I would be coming to the internet cafe to check my emails, blogs and above all chat to my bestfriend. Bamboo House
It was one Sunday that my niece and I were walking to the church, and while approaching to a small bamboo house, I saw lots of flowers, I was so fascinated to all the flowers, and I could really say that even how small the house is, but it truly looks so pretty, and it is so wonderful to roam around the house because of the flowers around. And I could really see that the owner of this bamboo house looks after her small abode, and always makes it beautiful. Oh, one thing that really caught my eye was the the white roses, although, they are almost to fall down, but still, they really look pretty to me. So, I captured them by my cellphone.
See these white roses? Although, I am not owner of them, but I truly appreciate its beauty. And how much more the planter of them, I am pretty sure that she waters them often, to keep her roses in bloom. And also to keep her small bamboo house to look more beautiful. Upon looking at this house, I had in my mind that the owner of it says, yes, even how little the house i am are stay in, but it look good and beautiful to me, and I am very much satisfied being here, and happy adoring my little abode. Huh! Before I talk much, I better stop here now.
Look? the petals are almost give in, but I could still see the real beauty of it. Anyway, this is my entry for today’s meme. Have a pleasant Wednesday everyone, and see you all around.
Indoor/Outdoor Games for Toddlers, Children and Teenagers
Indoor/Outdoor Games for Toddlers, Children and Teenagers
Whether it’s summer, spring, fall or winter, kids will always utter the words, “I’m bored.” Rather than stick them in front of a computer screen or television set, you might want to get your kids up and on their feet. Day camp counselors and even babysitters may need some fresh new game ideas to keep kids entertained from the mundane board games and sports games children often play.
Instead, you might be interested in spicing up your activities and giving children a new set of games to play. From games designed for toddlers all the way to teenagers, you’re sure to find some new form of entertainment.
Grab Bag
Ideal for a large class of children, grab bag lets children exercise and compete in a series of activities. Using pencils, strips of paper and brown paper bags, you can create a set of physical or educational tasks a child must perform. Each student(s) will have to race to one of the brown bags and select a strip. Each strip will have instructions a student must perform such as jumping backwards, doing 20 jumping jacks, or answer a series of math or science facts.
Grab bag serves as the perfect mixture of physical activity and educational facts. All you have to do is scatter bags outside (or inside) and fill each bag with one slip. If you want, you can reward winners and create a circuit station of bags, such as one colored bag designated for a physical activity while another set aside for math facts.
Alphabet Bugs
For toddlers learning the alphabet, the “Alphabet Bug” games helps review the letters and entertain your child. Draw and cut out all the letters of the alphabet. Using tape, tape the letters of the alphabet onto your body. You can mix up the letters or arrange them in order. Ask your child to remove all the alphabet bugs attacking your body. After your toddler removes a letter, ask him/her to review the letter aloud.
The “Alphabet Bugs” game provides the perfect pre-school shape-up kit for early child development. You can also modify the game to include body parts, colors, shapes and numbers.
Poem Builder
Perfect for any literature classroom, the “Poem Builder” game lets young children and teenagers flex their creative ideas. Using scissors, construction paper and magazines, ask your students to cut out words to make into a poem. You can instruct students to make a haiku, free verse, limerick or a sonnet using the cutout words.
Constellation Art
Perfect for any science class or dads looking to entertain the kids on a Saturday afternoon. Constellation art requires a few star stickers, markers and white paper. Ask your children to randomly place 10 or more stickers onto a paper. Using the markers, play connect the dots with the stickers. Once a picture is formed, have each child describe what the picture means to him or her.
When considering new games for kids, always think about how existing games can be modified to create new thrills. Try something new with children and consider how different games can work on different age groups. Always mix up the type of games you perform to keep children interested.
